This semester has gone by pretty fast and I have learned a few things about creating music and music theory and playing new instruments such as the vocals and piano. In creating music I learned some scales and chords. I have found out that as much as I like vocals, I hate performing vocals and that if you play it correctly you can make literal piano gibberish sound nice if paired with the correct note and as time goes on I continue to get better at piano as expected. One of the highlights of the semester is probably passing science with an 85% but other than that it was pretty bland. Something that challenged me this semester was handing in assignments for ELA and music. A new challenge I would set for myself next semester is to get above 85% in ELA and Social Studies so I don’t have to do the final exam.
So in December we had the celebration of learning and unfortunately I did not perform due to being unprepared and it wasn’t a hard option to pick because if we were unprepared and performed we would’ve sounded like trash to be honest. Instead I have decided to perform during January i’m not one hundred percent where yet but it will be during lunch on the nineteenth and have decided that anybody can appear at anytime during my performance. The next few band classes are going to be for practice for the performance. I’m not quite sure if I am nervous for it yet but I will find out on the nineteenth.
This week we were given a video about procrastination. The video is about ways to help procrastinators by using steps to help with the problem. The steps to help were to plan goals, plan time, plan resources, plan process and finally plan for distractions. I’m personally going to use these a lot while also prioritizing some of my projects over my other ones. One thing I have been procrastinating with is my SMART goals, and my youtube script, and the reason for that is because I really suck at staying motivated. The process for the youtube script kinda went like this, “oh i’ve done enough work for today!” and then I don’t work on it until the night before. I know I should have been prioritizing in the past but i’m really lazy so I probably won’t start working on something until the week it's due. It’s also a good thing that my teacher has introduced google calendars to us so that I can plan more but I don’t quite understand how to use the google calendar, but there’s always a time to learn something. Google calendars is in my opinion the most confusing but the most useful tool of all. In the cavalier music academy time management is a big issue so i’m using all of these tools to help me with time management.
Yesterday the Cavalier Music Academy went from W.H. Croxford high school across the street to the RVS Education Centre along with the other academies to attend a presentation. In total I think I remember the presentation taking around four hours. The day started out normal, with our class meeting in the band room and then our teacher gathered us all up and sent us into the school foyer. There we met up with the mechatronics academy, the drama academy and the art academy. The whole process took up to around thirty minutes just to get everybody ready and quiet. After the thirty minutes of just chaos in the lobby of the school, the teachers gathered us up and had to guide a group of around one hundred students across the street. Crossing the street wasn't anything interesting apart from when we got there, it seems that whenever I go to the RVS ed centre it changes in some way like when I get to see a new room or the people at the desk change, y'know stuff like that. When we arrived at the RVS ed centre we were guided into a big room that could fit roughly around five hundred students and then some, and you can probably guess it was super chaotic when you stuff that many students into one room at a time. When the storm of people was calm and quiet they made us play games where you would have to jump and say your name etc. and it was fun I guess but then we had to stop and sit at tables with our friends and you may be asking yourself "wasn't that the best part?" no it wasn't we couldn't talk or go on our phones because there were teachers watching at all times for students to step out of line.
The first task we were given was to take some sticky notes and write things that would get you a good image on the internet and things that would get you a bad image on the internet. The next task was to listen to a woman come in and talk about how she has a good image on the internet, how to make a website and why having a bad image on the internet is bad for getting a job. I'm not going to lie I was mostly making giraffes with the sticky notes they provided while they were explaining this woman's art website. After she was talking about her site she kinda disappeared and we got started with our next task which was to partner up with someone in a different academy and I partnered up with someone in the mechatronics academy and we had to answer these questions that were set up like an interview. The final task we were told to do was the photographs where I grouped up with four other people and we had to get pictures taken by the other group members. We then had to make SMART goals, two to be precise, one academic goal and a personal goal if you don't know what a SMART goal then i'll tell you. SMART is an acronym for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Timely. All of the words have their own meanings. Specific means to explain the goal as much as we can which means who, what, where, when, why, which. Measurable means if we can measure how far we have come from where we started. Attainable which means the goal is reachable and you can complete your goal. Relevant means that the goal is compatible with your other goals at the time. Timely means that you should set a time for the specific goal to be completed. My academic goal is to perform with three instruments by the end of the school year (piano, vocals and trumpet)I know I can complete these goals because I am going to have many opportunities to perform and record and edit. I am going to measure this goal by learning to sightread piano music and get to fourth grade piano by next year. My personal goal is to be able to edit music/video by the end of the school year I am going to start by watching videos on the internet and edit my bands first song. These two goals can relate to each other because I will play music with my instruments and then edit it later. After everything was finished and we were done with the RVS centre we headed back across the street to the school and finished our fourth period class and went home. |
